BEST BRUNCH IN SOUTHERN OREGON

Who loves brunch?  Biscuits & gravy, omelets, huevos rancheros, we love it all. From the basic, to multi-layered flavors we love brunch! There is something about waking up and having a slow morning and then heading out sleepy-eyed in our favorite weekend comfy clothes to our favorite brunch spots; taking time to just enjoy the morning while sipping a mimosa or bloody Mary.  The food doesn’t have to be fancy, it just has to be comforting and delicious!

MEDFORD

BUTTERCLOUD BAKERY & CAFÉ

Buttercloud has quite the reputation for their delicious biscuit sandwiches and with their new location they've expanded their menu to include belly filling breakfast plates.  They've also expanded their cocktail menu to go beyond mimosas!  They now have Bloody Marys and Specialty Cocktails too.

My menu faves:  Veggie Hash Plate and the Buttercloud Benny with a lick the plate, yummy smoked cheddar "hollandaise" sauce.  As for my favorite biscuit sandwich I can't help but get the  Zuke & Bell, you can even substitute hash or greens instead of a biscuit.  See their full  MENU

 OVER EASY BRUNCH

Since Over Easy opened their new spot in downtown Medford they have been killing it.  Chef/Owner Braden Hitt takes brunch basics to a whole other level with a small but mighty menu that includes one of the most delicious omelets we have ever put in our mouth.  They don’t do plain, there is always a twist on the classics and they change up their menu every week so follow them on Facebook and Instagram to get the latest on what they are serving up.  Don’t forget the cocktails!  Bloody Marys to Mimosas,  Gin Drinks and Rum Drinks, well balanced and always seasonal.

Our menu faves:  Gary always goes for the Omelet or the Chicken Sandwich of the day.  Ilias is a sucker for their Biscuits & Gravy.  For myself, if they have anything with mushrooms on I will order it, they make an amazing mushroom omelet topped with a lemon crema that I crave and the Cod Cakes are to die for served with a tangy aioli.  Ilias (our 14 year old)  can’t resist their Biscuits & Gravy in fact he names them the best in southern Oregon.  He also loves their Huevos Rancheros...he’s kind of an expert on both.

Enjoy their brunch?  Hit up their Bar Menu only on Thursday & Friday, 430pm-8pm when they serve a delectable charcuterie board and a revolving menu of sandwiches and other delights with a full menu of hand crafted cocktails and mocktails.

ASHLAND

 MORNING GLORY

Morning Glory had been an Ashland staple for breakfast and brunch for over 20 years.  Their restaurant is an old cottage right across from the SOU campus giving you all the cozy feels. Not only are the portions huge they have unique side dish offerings of crispy polenta and instead of toast you can go for a warm berry muffin that you will want to slice right into and slather with butter.  Pair your brunch up with a Mega-Mosa or Bloody Mary and you will be set for the day!

Our menu faves:  The Red Crab Omelet is stuffed full of crab and artichoke hearts and their Rock Shrimp Cakes topped with poached eggs is divine.

RUBY'S

Ruby's is well known for their huuge breakfast burritos but you can get any of them on a bed of greens and then they have a list of tasty cocktails to choose from including a house made bloody mary.  Bonus!  If you go around 11am, you can order from food, beer and wine from Gil’s next door because they share patios, you just can’t take your cocktails over so keep that in mind!

Our menu faves:  I really enjoy the Spicy Veggie Burrito add Banana Peppers, it’s packed full of crispy potatoes, peppers, mushrooms, eggs, and cheese with FRESH jalapenos.  It’s so delicious!  Gary orders the Spicy Veggie Burrito add Chorizo (he loves all the veg too) or he will get a Spicy Chorizo add Steak depending on the mood he is in.

SMITHFIELD’S

Brunch at Smithfield’s is always a treat with house made bacon and duck fat fried potato cakes as a highlight.  While their nose to tail menu is meat centered they always have flavorful vegetarian dishes on the menu that I usually end up ordering. They also have a full cocktail menu with a variety of Bloody Mary’s and Mimosas.

Our menu faves:  Gary digs the Biscuits & Gravy, the Crimini Mushroom Gravy just throws this over the edge.  I love their Steak Benedict or the Frittata, I can only eat half but it makes for great leftovers and don’t miss out on their Bloody Mary with Pickled Quail Egg, DIVINE!

Smithfield’s Brunch is closed during Covid but I couldn’t write this story without including them because it is so good.  Here’s to hoping they have the capacity to open soon.  They are open for dinners which is just as amazing so check them out.  Hours can be found on their website.

GRANTS PASS

 THE BOHEMIAN BAR & BISTRO

Can you say Bloody Mary Bar?  Choose your house flavored vodka and then add all the garnish that you want including fried cheese curds, bacon, and all of the pickled veggies.  Their brunch menu consists of a variety of benedict choices and other classics like biscuits & gravy, as well as huge breakfast sandwiches, and plates full of chilaquiles.

My pick (Gary has never been here for brunch:  Their Pulled Pork Benedict is packed with flavor topped with caramelized onions and smothered in their house made hollandaise.

See their full menu HERE

They also serve dinner with a diverse and delicious menu.  Their Beef Stew is a force to be reckoned with!

 LULU'S

A cute little French style bistro in downtown Grants Pass had all of our breakfast favorites with twists like Tropical French Toast, build your own Crepes, and a variety of dishes.  Everything was delicious though maybe not as filling as other places.  We love this little spot for a relaxing Sunday brunch!

Our faves:  Surprise, surprise I loved their Oregon Benny served on top of grilled focaccia. Gayr had the Biscuit Sandwich and he said it was really good. It was a little smalle so he ordered a Biscuits and Gravy to share, also super yummy and scratch made.

 MAMOSA'S

If we were to pick one spot as our favorite restaurant in Grants Pass Mamosa’s would be it.  Every dish has multiple layers of flavor with a little extra oomph, they use local ingredients as much as they can always coming up with yummy, unusual combinations. They have lots of fun mimosas to choose from and their kids menu is always a hit without an eight year old.  They have a great space for outdoor seating too!

Our faves:  Gary and Ilias both agree that they have amazing Biscuits & Gravy and we always have room to share a dish of their Poutine (add an egg to it if you want to have it for breakfast, drool worthy).   Ilias really enjoyed their Huevos Rancheros too! I usually get their Benedict special no matter what it is because it is always fricking good!

They have great special every week in addition to their full menu HERE

 GROCERY PUB

Probably the most simple menu on our list, the Grocery Pub is a small neighborhood market that just happens to offer dine in options too. They have a very small menu offering huge helpings of biscuits and gravy topped with or without an egg or try their Bacon Sourdough Breakfast Bowl for something fun and unique.  If you hit them up on a Sunday they have $3 mimosas all day!  We love their outdoor dining area that’s nice and roomie with plenty of space and the owners are so humble and kind.

As you can tell we love brunch though we have yet found somewhere in the Roseburg area that we really love so suggestions are welcome.  We are always ready to try someplace new so if you have a southern Oregon favorite spot please don’t hesitate to drop any recommendations in the comments!
