OREGON COAST AQUARIUM SEA LIGHTS

KICKOFF WEEKEND:

Date and Time: Friday, November 30 and Saturday, December 1 from 6 – 9 pm

Cost: $2 with donation of 2 non-perishable human or pet food items, $10 without donation, free for members (donation encouraged)

ADDITIONAL NIGHTS:

Dates and Time: Every Friday and Saturday night in December from 5 – 8 pm

Cost: $10 or free with same day paid admission

‘Tis the season for twinkling lights, gingerbread houses, and reruns of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer. SCUBA Santa has spoken, and all of the Aquarium’s animal residents have made the “Nice” list! Well, the vote is still out on Nuka the Northern sea otter. Apparently he’s been a bit “shellfish” this year.

Join the Aquarium this December for our annual Sea of Lights. Over half a million colorful lights and holiday decorations will surround visitors with the spirit of the season as they explore the Aquarium after hours. SCUBA Santa will be busy diving the Aquarium exhibits, posing for photos with visitors, and noting family Christmas wishes.

Santa Claus will be at Sea of Lights to grant holiday wishes.

This family-friendly event kicks off with a special celebration on Friday, November 30, and Saturday, December 1, from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. Admission to the first weekend of Sea of Lights is $2 plus two cans of nonperishable food. Entry is $10 per person without donation. Admission is free for Aquarium members, but they are encouraged to bring an item to donate. People may also donate pet food or new, unwrapped children’s toys for the Newport Fire Department’s Holiday Toy Drive in place of a food donation.

Sea of Lights will continue to illuminate the Aquarium Fridays and Saturday nights through December from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Admission is $10 or free with same day paid admission.

The Aquarium is open every day, except December 25, this winter from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. For more information visit aquarium.org or call (541) 867-3474.

FREE RANGER GUIDED SNOWSHOEING AT CRATER LAKE
Dec
8
to Apr 28

FREE RANGER GUIDED SNOWSHOEING AT CRATER LAKE

In an average winter, Crater Lake National Park receives 43 feet of snow! Ranger-led snowshoe hikes are a fun way to explore this winter wonderland while learning how plants, animals, and people survive the harsh conditions.

This winter, snowshoe hikes will be offered from December 8 through April 28 on weekends and holidays, and every day from December 15 through January 6. They start at 1:00 pm, last two hours, and cover 1 to 2 miles of moderate-to-strenuous terrain. They don’t follow a trail—the hike is an off-trail exploration through the forests and meadows along the rim of Crater Lake.

No previous snowshoeing experience is necessary. Snowshoes are provided free of charge, and there is no cost for the tour (apart from the winter entrance fee of $15 per vehicle).

Participants should be at least 8 years old, be in good physical health, and come prepared with warm clothing and water-resistant footwear. The walks take place rain or shine (or snow). Pets are not allowed on the hike.

Space on each tour is limited, and advance reservations are required. We will begin taking reservations for the season on November 15. For more information and to sign up, call the park’s visitor center at 541-594-3100. The visitor center is open daily except on December 25.

Organized groups (such as scout troops, hiking clubs, and church groups) may be able to arrange for a separate tour, staff permitting. Call (no earlier than November 15) to check on available dates.
